position on The Daily Show on Comedy Central and creator and star of the sitcom
Ronny Chieng International Student which was first shown on ABC (Australia) as
well as Comedy Central Asia in 2017. Chieng was born in Johor Bahru, Malaysia,
to a Malaysian Chinese family. From 1989 until 1994, Chieng lived in Manchester
in New Hampshire. Chieng was a performer at a comedy festival that took place
in Melbourne, Australia in 2013, with Trevor Noah. The following year Chieng
was asked to audition for the correspondent role for The Daily Show, which Noah
hosts. In July of 2016 Chieng was named one of the top 10 comics to Check out
by Variety In October, Chieng appeared on The Daily Show to offer his take on
Jesse Watters Fox News segment thought to be racist by a large majority of
viewers. Chieng expressed his opinion with a lot of expletive about the segment
of Fox News, a conservative news network. Chieng also visited New york City's
Chinatown where Watters joked about the residents. The video went viral and was
featured by the Washington Post, Slate, as well as other media outlets. Chieng
was a Singapore Sea Scout during his youth. Even though he's lived in Australia
for more than a decade Chieng does not hold citizenship or permanent residence
status in Australia. Chieng laughed in 2018 when he said it was cynophobic. However,
he afterwards, he said he was 100 percent not afraid of dogs.
