Abi Clarke
In the past,
i.e. in the beginning of 2020, comedians may have hoped to spend several years
traveling around the UK as stand-up comedians, prior to getting invited to
appear on a television panel show and then selling out an arena tour. However,
it's not so easy at the moment. Comedy is one type of art that has been able
continue to perform in front of an audience in person. However, we'll not be
seeing arena tours anytime soon. One Bristol comedian, however, has been able
to reach a huge worldwide audience during lockdown via social media. Abi Clarke
never set out to become an internet celebrity. Abi Clarke is a young woman of
24 who lives in Henbury along with her parents, created her first online videos
to "build an audience of like-minded people who would enjoy my stand-up
comedy." "I had been performing frequently in Devon for men older
than 50 who were not so enthusiastic about my Love Island Sims and Twilight
references, so I decided to go online to find other young women who like my
stand-up comic." Abi, who lives in Henbury, with her parents, continues to
upload her video content to Instagram, Twitter, and Tik Tok. Her inspiration
comes from a variety of sources, such as conversations with strangers, the
chatroom, and also writing down her thoughts on her smartphone.
